Dr Sheelagh James

Dr Sheelagh James has been with Auckland Family Medical Centre since its inception and has worked in general practice for over 30 years. Sheelagh has postgraduate qualifications in obstetrics and is a fellow of the Royal NZ College of GPs. Having trained in rural practice in Scotland, Sheelagh believes strongly that general practice should be a one stop shop for all patients dealing with any aspect of healthcare.
Dr John McCartie

Dr John McCartie has been at our practice since 1998. He is a fellow of the Royal NZ College of GPs, offers over 25 years experience as a GP and has gained international experience working in London and Sydney general practices. Dr McCartie has a special interest in skin cancer diagnosis and treatment – he holds a postgraduate diploma in general dermatology from the UK and is one of a small number of doctors in Australia and New Zealand with a postgraduate Diploma in Dermoscopy (the most accurate way to diagnose skin cancers), awarded with Distinction. Additionally he has postgraduate training in non-surgical and surgical treatments for skin cancer. As well as holding a Diploma in Child Health and two years paediatric training, he also has considerable experience in adult and older people’s medicine.
Dr Phillipa Murray
MB ChB 1991 Otago; DCH 1995 Otago; FRNZCGP 2000
Phillipa graduated from Otago University in 1991 and worked in several hospitals around NZ, before specialising in General Practice and gaining her Fellowship in General Practice in 2000. She has worked at AFMC since 2002 and holds postgraduate qualifications in paediatrics (children’s health), family planning (women’s health), minor surgery, and skin cancer medicine. Phillipa regularly attends updates in management of all General Practice topics to stay as up to date on new treatments as possible. She enjoys all aspects of General Practice medicine, and is passionate about the wonderful doctor/patient relationships that are built in General Practice.
Dr Hong Duan
BM 1987 Beijing; FRNZCGP 2010
Dr Hong Duan has a Bachelor of Medicine from Beijing Medical University, and has studied further in New Zealand, gaining a Diploma in Obstetrics/Gynaecology and Paediatrics from Auckland University. Dr Duan is a fellow of the Royal NZ College of GPs and has worked in general practice for over 16 years – joining our team here in 2014. She has a special interest in family medicine, women and children’s healthcare.
Dr Claire Chu
MBChB, Dip Paeds, FRNZCGP
Claire graduated from Otago University in 2004 and has since worked in all four hospitals in the Auckland region, with various experience in different specialties including Starship Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General/Respiratory/Renal medicine, Surgery and Geriatric medicine. In 2007, her enthusiasm in children’s health prompted her to complete a Diploma in Paediatrics and she is now a Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practice with updated knowledge and skills to provide a high quality of care.
Claire emigrated with her family from Taiwan and has been resident in NZ since 1996. She is fluent in both English and Mandarin. She enjoys working alongside her patients to improve their health. She cares for people in all age groups and with all cultural backgrounds. Her special interests are children’s and women’s health, contraception/fertility issues, family medicine, chronic care management and minor surgery.
Claire lives in central Auckland with her doctor husband Daniel. In her private time she enjoys jazz/hip hop/cultural dancing, outdoor sports, music and shopping.
Dr Rebecca Little
MBChB, Dip Paeds
Rebecca graduated from Otago University in 2014, she has worked in Christchurch hospital and all four hospitals throughout Auckland. During this time she developed an interest in child health and completed her post graduate diploma in paediatrics at the University of Auckland. After working as a GP in Northland she has returned home to continue her General Practice career in Auckland. Rebecca has a strong passion for General Practice and enjoys the variety of medicine it offers. She aims to deliver a high quality of care to every patient who walks in the door.
Dr Kevin Gabriel
Dr Kevin Gabriel is locuming for Auckland Family Medical. He is a very experienced GP and provides quality patient-centred care.
